La Bakry Dedicates Reading Post in Wasaga

Pasarwojo – The vice Mayor of Buton, Drs La Bakry Msi hopes all seven districts in the Buton regency will have a reading garden that serves the community. This comment was made yesterday at the dedication ceremony of one reading garden in the Wasaga district of Wasaga which is located in the Pasarwojo regency.

“I hope other districts can have a Reading Garden like this one and that they will become the best reading gardens in all of Sultra prinvince,” he said.

He mentioned that Cinta Baca had already open a branch in Aceh which became the best library in Indonesia. He hopes this branch could become the best branch in the Sultra province and hopefully soon other districts could have a reading post as well.

Libraries are like store houses of knowledge so through reading one can gain much insight. This is not only for children but also the general public, so he hopes the members of this community will take advantage of this reading post.

“As a represent the regional government and on behalf of the community we thank the staff of this organization (Cinta Baca) for opening a reading garden for the community. Furthermore the regional government also has a similar mission to grow the education sector here in the buton regency”, he said.
Mr. La Bakry also fully support the opening of this reading garden, hopefully the children in the school can utilize this reading garden and lessen other activity that isn’t connected to the world of education such as watch television.

Frist, a staff member of Cinta Baca mention that one of the reasons his yayasan is opening these reading posts is to bring non-formal educational services to the children in the school.

“There are around 2000 books which we have supplied from many different topics. Some are school books, comics and even some novels,” he explained.

Frist also explained how Cinta Baca has already opened up reading posts in 10 of Indonesias provinces of which Sultra is one of them. The one they are most proud of is the branch in Aceh which won the award for the best reading garden in Indonesia.

He explained, anyone can come here and read a book at the reading garden, not just childen but adults as well. We even have made books available that deal with agricultural issues and other topics.
Opening this reading garden is one way we can support the central governments program of improving the educational sector throughout Indonesia. (yen)
