On September 2, 2014 Cinta Baca sponsored a story telling training for preschool teachers at the Cibinong Reading Post near Pelabuhan Ratu. The program was attended by teachers from 3 different preschools.
Storytelling is one of the more routine programs that Cinta Baca uses to motivate young children to read. Ibu Dian, a staff member of Cinta Baca was the trainer at this event and handed out material entitled “Story Telling Techniques for Teachers of Preschool”.
Through this training the 10 participants learned ways to enhance the reading of a book with different reading techniques. They also discussed how to help the children identify the essence of the story, its main characters, moral and theme. The training highlighted some ways to select books for a given age group and what kind of creative activities to use with the different age groups.
After the training the participants broke up in to small groups to put into practice what was discussed earlier.
Ibu Myai Solihah, one of the representatives from the Mawar Preschool said “We are all very thankful for the staff of Cinta Baca putting on this training program as we can see how it not only will be beneficial for our classes but also for our kids and their families. She went on to say that she “hopes Cinta Baca will not stop working in this area, but will keep on being an encouragement and motivation for educators as this areas potential for education is far behind compared to the schools in the larger cities. We hope this kind of activity will not stop here but also continue to the next generation of children and be offered in the surrounding villages where they are even more desperately needed. Those villages are even more neglected or left behind in terms of education, for even here in Pelabuhan Ratu there isn’t even one book store.”
