The Cinta Baca Medan City library as of early July now has a new Computer Training Center (CTC). The Medan library hopes that the with these 11 computer units it will be able to better serve the needs of its members. In addition to this this CTC can also function as an Internet Cafe and be used to run inexpensive computer courses for the community. These new computer facilities are a part of CintaBaca’s sustainability project and the result of donations from a particular foriegn donor.
At the beginning of 2012, CB began its sustainability project focusing first at every city library. This project is focused on helping regional branches cover their operation expenses and become more independent. Every city library has integrated a strategic Sustainability Integrated Service (SIS) into their future plans. These SIS programs will help the libraries raise funds to cover their operational expenses while also attracting more visitors to the libraries. Some examples of SIS include but are not limited to, an internet cafe, Computer classes and a library study tour.
In addition to Medan, CintaBaca is also looking for sponsors to help fund SIS projects in Banda Aceh(Northern Sumatra), Palembang (Southern Sumatra), Bogor (West Java), Makassar (Southern Sulawesi) and Baubau (Central Sulawesi). A new Internet cafe and computer course program requires only an investment of $6000 and will supply 10 computers. As for the library study tour program this only requires $1000.
