Negeri Katon has one reading post and one reading base in Kucingan. This reading post has become an example to other posts for its operator is truly committed to managing the post without receiving any compensation since July 2012. The love of reading in this area is reflected by the number of visitors who come to the post each day.
We are very thankful that Negeri Katon has been a friend of Cinta Baca. On June 30, 2012 this area celebrated its 2 year anniversary inviting kids from the Reading Post and the reading base to the celebration. The events were filled with educational activities and although there was no cake or colored balloons, the place was filled with the sounds of laughter and joy. While the kids in this area live rather basically, they can feel special for they now have a rare access to a wealth of information.
Activities during the day included singing songs with hand motions, as the field staff played guitar. Outside the room the staff led a few games for the brain as groups competed in things like dictionary, guess the word, storytelling and Komunikata (a popular word quiz game). In each of these games there were winners and losers but no one was sad as every room was full of laughter and many came together to celebrate this anniversary. At the end every kid went home with a new pencil and some chocolate.
