Bajo Bahari

Bajo tribe children who live in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi prefer to fish than to study. When they reach the age of 10 and are able to catch tuna fish, they will leave their school and start selling the tuna fish that they catch. Most of the children in the Bajo tribe do not finish their elementary school education due to economy reason. In their eyes fishing and selling tuna is more beneficial for them than to go to school.

Cinta Baca Baubau tries to reach out to the Bajo tribe children who live near Bajo Bahari Reading Post by holding various educational activities, including storytelling. The main goal is to change their paradigm and show them the importance of education.

You can become involved in supporting Cinta Baca to bring the Bajo tribe children back to school. For more information, please contact us at info@cintabaca.org
