Cinta Baca has a vision to raise up Indonesians who are “cerdas dan berbudi luhur tidak akan mampu mewujudkannya jika tidak dibantu oleh masyarakat”.
Truly helping the community is only possible through the help of volunteers. Volunteers come from all walks of life and all different ages. One group that has helped us out greatly are students.
Students as one part of the academic community have a responsibility to help the nation realize its aspirations, and not only focus on their own goals.
The students of STIE Kesatuan Bogor 2012-2013 sponsored a program called BAKTI SOSIAL with a theme “Project Social Education”. This was one program aimed at raising involvement and concern among students and teachers for the community around them.
The volunteers from STIE Kesatuan are going to help out at the library for 3 months from September through November and so far some 27 students have participated.
What is really behind this interest? Here are a few comments from these students:
“I feel called to be involved in social outreach for before I experiences difficulty in my studies, as it was very hard for me to buy books and study materials when I was in primary and secondary school. But I am thankful that I have been able to continue my studies until now. This has made me want to take steps to make sure this doesn’t happen the the next generation. I want to help increase a love for reading and learning in the next generation so our nation can continue to progress? – Budiyamto (head of the Bakti Social group).
Yusine a marketing major in semester III also commented, “When I was in elementary school I didn’t like to read that much. For me it was kind of boring. Once I graduated and went to middle school where we had to be much more disciplined to read for there were many difficult assignments. My parents used to push me to read more, and little by little I started to gain an appreciation for reading. Reading is very important, and from it we can gain a board understanding. Today I love to read – its a lot of fun. So I want to encourage all those younger to came to Cinta Baca and grow in their love for reading.”
So here are a few stories behind these student voluntees. The motivation that has given the the desire to volunteer at Cinta Baca. May the next generation continue to move forward!
