Family Reading Club at Tajimalela - Kalianda-1

The village hall in the small town of Tajimalela was pack with people on May 9th who came not to discuss some new governmental policy, but rather to celebrate the completion of the Family Reading Club (Kelompol Baca Keluarga KBK). About 65 people in all (adults & children) packed the hall at around 1:30 to participate in a number of games and competitions.

Upon arrival, the Cinta Baca team was greeted by Ibu Rohana, the coordinator of the Family Reading Club at this location. This club consisted of 8 mothers who brought their 9 preschool aged children to monthly meetings over a 10 month period.

Mr. Tommy, one of the Cinta Baca’s field staff for the Kalianda area, started the gathering off by explaining the vision and purpose of Cinta Baca. As Mr. Tommy asked all those present some questions about the reading post, one participant of the Family Readin club who was only 5 years old was the first to enthusiastically answer the question.  Story Telling competition for kids in the 5th & 6th class
 Drawing competition for kids in the 3rd & 4th class
 A coloring competition for kids in the 1st & 2nd clas
 A seperate coloring competion for kids in Preschool & who were also members of the Family Reading Club.

Mrs. Rohana & Mr Ronie Marbun from Cinta Baca Bogor presided over the competitions as the official judges of the event. After the results were agreed upon prizes where given out the kids.
In closing, Mr. Roni shared some thoughts and impressions relating to how to parents can encourage and raise up children so that they have a true love for reading. Spending regular time reading to ones children is the comfort of their home is one of the best ways to demonstate and encourage kids to love to read. Mr. Roni also encouraged participants of the Family Reading Club to also consider participating in the follow up program entitled Kelompok belajar Sehat (KEJAR SEHAT) or the Family Health Club.

The women seemed very interest in continuing on with Family Health Club. Mrs Rohana will continue to promote this new class in the community especially to other mothers who were in an earlier Family Reading Club.
Mr. Roni Marbun closed the meeting excited to see how the reading post in the village of Tajimalela in southern Lampung is a window into the heart of a generation of kids that love to read and families that are commited to raising children of strong charater and morals.
