This past Monday afternoon (3/11/2013), Mrs Warsih’s home in Ciberahol-Cariu (Banten) was a very happening place. About 30 people packed into her little home to celebrate the opening of the Sukajadi-Cariu Family Reading Club and the graduation of the Cariu II Family Reading Club. Ibu Dian & Lia from the regional office also attended the event together with Pak Eko (Field Staff) and Ibu Sianipar the leader of this Family Reading Program.

The program began with an opening by Pak Eko to the nine mothers and fifteen or so children present. Ibu Dian then presented the Brown Bear Story Telling program to the group. The kids loved having the story read to them and they enthusiastically participated when asked about the names of the animals and colors. The graduation ceremony for the Cariu II Family reading club followed. This group started in March 2012 with six participants, and three children received a certificate at this event.

“I was very glad to participate in the Family Reading Club for it has helped my child to read, so now when she enters Elementary school she will already know how to read.”

This is the thid consecutive group of the Family reading club in the Cariu village. This level of enthusiaism from the community has greatly strengthened the effectiveness of the work of Cinta Baca in this region.
